Tewkesbury – Mop Fair
GREAT DAY OUT
With or without the kids.
Every year on the 9th & 10th October, the MOP fair takes over Tewkesbury, well at least 4 streets and the main town car park…..
Well worth a womble round and with several good pubs close by, you can enjoy a pint or 2 as well.
A Brief History
Tewkesbury Mop Fair is one of the oldest and largest street fairs in the West of England, held annually on the 9th and 10th of October.
Originating as a medieval hiring or statute fair following the 14th-century Statute of Labourers—where agricultural workers carried symbols of their trade, such as mops or fleeces, to secure annual employment—
The fair has evolved into a vibrant, high-energy festival. Today, it takes over the historic town centre, filling its medieval streets and timber-framed backdrop with a bustling mix of classic fairground carousels, modern thrill rides, game stalls, and traditional street food.
